Hey Greg. I agree with you 100%. I HATE sports! I make no apologies for that fact & I do NOT read anything you or anyone else posts about sports. But I don't mind that you post things about sports for the others to read. I know that you were not directing your post to me. But I just wanted you to know that while I do not like somethings you may post I simply don't read them.

I think you put a lot of time and energy into your posts & I would hate it if you left the board because someone dosn't like what you post. Keep 'em coming!

I agree to a large extent, but that doesn't solve all problems. Consider lyrics played on the radio and subjects discussed on talk radio. Sure, if an adult doesn't want to hear it, you change the channel, but if you don't want your child listening to it, how do you prevent it? My daughter's clock radio clicks on and there's Howard Stern discussing details of oral sex. Do you have to confiscate all radios on the house? How 'bout all the stuff that is 10 X worse on CD's? You can monitor what they buy, but nowadays they can have a friend burn anything they want for a cost up to one dollar per disc. I don't think I have the nerve to type the lyrics my son listens to in this thread. How do you prevent that, confiscate all CD equipment in the house? Ground them permanently and enjoy WW4?

I don't know what the solution is, but changing the channel doesn't git R done and it's becoming a pain in the butt. Gawd I sound old...

Red face

Lan - I was talking about this board only when I said I just don't read posts about sports.

Now let me say - I am very, very glad that I do not have young children these days. Because I do not know the answer. I really don't. It was much easier when my kids were young. There was no downloading of music, no computers, and you can believe this. My oldest son used to say "wait a minute, I have to check with the pope" whenever a friend would call & ask him if he wanted to see a certain movie. I was known as the strictest parent alive. I'm sorry for today's youth. There is nothing left to the imagination. Kids are not permitted to be kids. They grow up too fast, know more at age ten or twelve than I knew when I got married (at 22 years of age). And what do kids have to look forward to nowadays? NOTHING! I am sorry for my grandkids and can't even imagine what their kids will be like! I wish I could help you but, the truth of the matter is, I can't. It is all beyond me. Exclamation

We hear and see it all the time. People screaming and protesting about this and that. A movie comes out that they find contorversial, they go crazy about it's content. Certain magazines or tv shows aren't what the deem acceptable for their content, they scream and yell and protest some more.
Well, for those of you that have had problems with content in things like these I have a simple solution. DON'T DO THEM! DON'T READ THEM! DON'T BUY THEM! DON'T WATCH THEM!
There is a reason that magazines like playboy are only sold to adults and are generally put in the back row of the top shelf and come in a wrapper. There are reasons why movies are rated R and NC-17. You see, there are guidlines in place to try to make it easier to decide what each person deema appropriate without masking it so that others cant enjoy it. Freedom of choice allows us to make our own decsions on many things. And what we watch, read and enjoy are amongst those things. If you know a movie has nudity in it, and you have a problem with seeing nudity on film... DON'T GO SEE THAT MOVIE! Knowing ahead of time (and there are numerous ways to find out ahead of time a movies content) and still going just so youi can complain is stupid! Same goes for magazines. If you dont approve of Playboy or it's OK, but dont sit there are scream about something that really has no bearing on your life other than it gives you something to complain about. Actually, it kind of applies to the internet as well. There are message boards such as these all over the place, and they are all filled with opinions, jokes and just about everything else. It seems odd to me that someone would continue to read a persons posts that they dont agree with on a regular basis. Why would someone do something just so mthey have something to complain about? That's beyond stupid. No, I dont think that many of these things should be made available to kids, and would never want society as a whole to make it that way, but parents also have ways of blocking certain channels and even putting parental guidleines on their computers.
In conclusion, I'll just make the point as it applies to me.
If I know that I dont like something, I try not to do it. I'm not talking about household chores and things like that, I mean like things that are more of a personal choiice nature like some listed above. If you dont go out of your way to upset yourself over things that really have no bearing on you at all unless you make them that way, you might just end up being a happier and more liked person. And you may be less stressed out from not getting all bent out of shape about things that really made no difference to you to begin with.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">You make a good point. The proliferation of questionable material has made its way into the every day lives of children and adults. It becomes difficult for even the best parent to protect their children.

My brother has two boys, one 12, one 14. While they don't have cable and they don't allow their boys to purchase questionable music, the boys go over to their friends' homes and watch and listen to t the forbidden shows and music.

I get home from work around 6:30, I turn on the tube as I eat dinner and am greeted with "That 70's Show," which can be considered rather mainstream television.

Last night's episode had Fez commenting that "no guy can say no to a whore." To that someone turns to Eric's sister and asks, "Has anyone turned you down?" She responds, "No." (Laugh track in background.)

This is the dinner hour, and actors playing teenagers are talking about being unable to turn down a whore.
